Phenotype

Green, hairless, rosetting (<15cm diametre), slow growing, vernal-obligate, Spring flowering, protogynous, self-compatable (97%), hyperaccumulating (zinc [Zn] >3% shoot dry weight (s.d.w.); cadmium [Cd] up to 1.5% s.d.w.), herbaceous, facultative metallophytic, biennial, cruciferous, wild ecotype. Plants produce several long peduncles, composing racemes of inflorescences, generating didymous silicula, each containing a maximum of eight seeds.

Location: Les Malines, Saint-Laurent-Le-Minier, Ganges, Parc National des Ceve, Departement du Gard, Region Languedoc-Roussillon, (40 km north of Montpellier).

Habitat: Heavy-metal-enriched (Zn-Pb-Cd) lead/zinc mine spoil tailings (closed 1993), on a metaliferous, calamine, calcareous, porous, basal substrate, located in the south Cévennes mountain range, S. France. Site consists of Zn/Pb sulphides and oxides associated
